Once I got an onsite opportunity to work in South Korea. My lead asked me to get a passport as soon as possible; else he told I would miss the opportunity which I do not want to. Harvard extension school has some interesting masters degree programs. A good percentage of the classes are offered online. Most programs have some type of residency requirement that require you to live in Cambridge for a semester. Still the ability to do most of your course work from home and give the actual degree from Harvard looks pretty valuable.It sounds like the residency requirement can be fulfilled with the summer semester. I think that someone might take weeks. I don’t have quite that amount of vacation time with my current job, but I imagine I could work something out. It’s not like I’d be gone for a full for five months.At first I wasn’t sure about extension school. It sounded like it might be some type of knockoff that was just using the Harvard name. But the more I looked at it the better it looked. It sounds like the Harvard extension school was started years ago in order to let the local community take classes from Harvard professors. It later grew to encompass correspondence courses. Of course correspondence courses have been greatly replaced by Internet-based education.While the extension school has some of its own teachers, it looks like many of them are normal Harvard instructors. I’m not sure if there is a significant difference in the quality of the teachers between the two schools, but it sounds like I’d get both of them in class.
