Criticism On “D.C. Deal Puts Merit Pay for Teachers on the Syllabus”

Bill,

Let’s not forget that nobody is drafted into teaching and education, but even so, teachers should be fairly paid.

Still, public school teachers should be paid for excellent teaching rather than avoiding getting fired and accumulating needless advanced degrees as is now the case.

My children are grown, but if I were the parent of a child entering kindergarten and had a choice of a first year teacher with a basic degree accompanied by boundless enthusiasm and a teacher with 25 years experience and a PhD, I’d take the first year teacher every time. Teachers should be paid for excellence in teaching first and foremost because our children deserve nothing less.
