We very nearly missed out
I learned a lesson the hard way about finding some taupo accommodation when they have a big event going on in town. We were heading there to support a friend in a race and we left it a bit late to book somewhere to stay and so many places we called had no vacancies. Luckily I found one that had a room and I was quite surprised because it was one of the nicer places in town. I guess other people figured it would already be booked out but we were lucky enough to get the very last room available for the weekend. Next time I will definitely be booking well in advance to make sure we don’t miss out.
